Dr. Alam Elected as Mass. Chair of the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma
Hasan B. Alam, MD, of the Massachusetts General Hospital Division of Trauma, Emergency Surgery and Critical Care, and an investigator with CIMIT, has been elected to a six-year term as Massachusetts chair of the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma.
The ACS Committee on Trauma coordinates all aspects of trauma care, such as injury prevention and treatment, emergency medical services, rehabilitation, disaster preparedness, education, legislative issues and research. Much of Dr. Alam’s research has been focused on the cessation of bleeding, especially as it relates to soldiers in the field.
Dr. Alam was educated at Aga Khan Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan, and served a residence at Washington Hospital Center. He had fellowships at the Washington Hospital Center and the Uniformed Services University, F. Edward Hebert, School of Medicine, in Bethesda, MD.
He leads the Trauma Research Laboratory at MGH, which was founded in 2005. Funding for projects is provided through competitive grants from CIMIT, The National Institute of Health (NIH), The Office of Naval Research, The Department of Defense, and other sources.
