Forum Summary
The biomedical industry looks to academia to determine how best to attack diseases, and while drug development is associated with industry, many drug discoveries are made by academics. Some companies make abandoned drugs available to academics in order to facilitate research. Developing a new drug usually costs approximately $2 billion, and drug companies are always looking to shorten the development timeline, which can be difficult when dealing with degenerative diseases that take years to manifest themselves. The industry is looking for biomarkers of neurological health that could serve as short-term endpoints in clinical trials.
