4:00PM  Patient Selection for Novel Stroke Therapy Using Advance Imaging

Currently, only 3-5% of the 750,000+ stroke patients per year in the United States are treated with IV-tPA (tissue plasminogen activator) - the only FDA approved medical treatment for acute stroke - within the required 3 hour time window from stroke onset. With the judicious use of advanced CT and MR imaging, however, the time window for such IV therapy has the potential to be expanded up to nine hours, which could result in a greatly increased pool of eligible patients. Both the technical standardization / validation of these CT and MR perfusion techniques, as well as the major clinical trials supporting their implementation, will be discussed.
