Forum Abstract

Advanced drug delivery systems are having an enormous impact on human health. Dr. Robert Langer will discuss early research on developing skin patches and controlled release microspheres. Approaches for creating new biomaterials are then evaluated and examples where such materials are used in brain cancer are discussed. He will explore promising new drug delivery technologies including nanoparticles that are now being studied for use in treating cancer and other illnesses. In addition, Dr. Langer will discuss new ways of using nanotechnology to deliver DNA and siRNA, novel microchips for drug delivery, and non invasive ultrasonic approaches for delivering macromolecules through skin.
