The Global Health Initiative is a project by CIMIT and other organizations to respond to the needs of underserved patient populations in this country and around the world. CIMIT is using its collaborative power to bring doctors and engineers into the program to help serve the needs of pediatric populations, remote medical rescue teams, refugee medical clinics and women’s healthcare centers.

Clinical problem: Provide programs to help those in emerging nations to help themselves. Planners must identify the needs of communities and work with residents so they will be able to cope with medical issues on a long-term basis.

CIMIT Solutions:

• CIMIT is helping to develop a Medical Access Program (MAP), which brings local medical resources together and pinpoints projects that can improve health conditions in emerging communities.
• Developing a mothers-and-newborn health program that proposes to team with an international auto maker to update and repair Isolettes used to help vulnerable babies.
• Creating education programs for midwives and mothers to enable them to learn safety techniques for during and after childbirth. They, in turn, will teach others.
• Planning production of a “low-tech” device to be used on newborns whose air passages are congested following birth.
