OmniGuide Communications Inc. Joins CIMIT As Newest Member of Industry Liaison Program
CAMBRIDGE, MA - August 18, 2003 - OmniGuide Communications, Inc. has recently joined CIMIT (Center for the Integration of Medicine and Innovative Technology) as the newest member of its Industry Liaison Program.
OmniGuide is a privately held company that develops revolutionary hollow-core photonic bandgap fibers. OmniGuide fibers allow waveguiding of light in air and can be tailored for specific wavelengths and various medical applications. A wide variety of medical procedures, including surgery, dermatology, and dentistry, benefit from infrared lasers such as Er:YAG and CO2.
In the past, the use of these lasers has been limited by the absence of a viable fiber technology. OmniGuide fibers surmount this limitation by flexibly delivering infrared beams from the laser source to the treated site. This process will simplify current infrared laser treatments and allow the introduction of new minimally invasive laser-based procedures.
Uri Kolodny is co-founder and VP of Marketing and Business Development at OmniGuide Communications. Regarding CIMIT’s recent Small Business, Innovation and Research (SBIR) program, Kolodny said, “To date, OmniGuide has had great success with the SBIR program. We intend to use this funding mechanism to launch joint projects with CIMIT investigators to identify potential medical applications, conduct clinical efficacy studies and evaluate the medical benefits of our ground-breaking fiber technology.”
