Phsyical Sciences, Inc. Renews ILP Membership
CAMBRIDGE, MA - June 29, 2005 - CIMIT is pleased to annouce that Physical Sciences Inc. (PSI) has renewed its membership in the Industry Liaison Program.
PSI, located in Andover, MA, provides contract research and development services in a wide range of technical areas to both government and commercial customers, with interests from basic research to technology development, with an emphasis on applied research. The technical staff of PSI maintains broad expertise in all of the major disciplines of the physical sciences and engineering.
While the company has a long history of contributions to medical technologies, starting with studies of laser-tissue interactions and fragmentation of kidney stones with micro-electromechanical device, only in recent years have we begun to exploit our full capabilities in biophotonics and “smart” medical devices. A key to this increased success in biomedical R&D has been our close interaction and partnership with leading medical researchers and clinicians. PSI is fortunate to have many such partnerships in the Boston area and elsewhere in the biomedical community.
Examples of some of the diverse biomedical technologies PSI scientists and engineers are currently developing include:
- advanced retinal imaging technologies
- “calibrated” endoscopes for accurate object sizing
- a real-time optical monitor for photodynamic therapy effectiveness
- compact laser-based spectrometers for trace gas breath sensing
- advanced techniques for multiplexed protein imaging in living cells
- advanced tools for high throughput drug screening using zebrafish
- “smart” electromechanical devices for orthopaedic corrections
- a surgical training simulator for epidural needle insertions
- novel probes for fluorescence and Raman signal enhancements
- novel probes for highly multiplexed assays of biological proteins
- a rapid breath test to predict adverse drug reactions
- compact solid state dye lasers for biomedical applications
