Sean Kennedy Joins CIMIT as Associate Director for Programs and Technology

Sean Kennedy, MS, PMP, MPH, recently joined CIMIT as Associate Director for Programs and Technology.

“Sean has a broad background in IT systems, and he has experience dealing with the military and those in Veterans Affairs,” said CIMIT Executive Director John Parrish, MD. “He will fit in well with some of our new initiatives and programs.”

Kennedy, an honored veteran of the Army’s officer corps and an award-winning IT professional, will lead CIMIT’s information systems optimization program, will manage the Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense relationships, and will facilitate the development of the science program.

Prior to coming to CIMIT, Sean served seven years on active duty with the U.S. Army, four years in industry and two at the Mass General Physicians Organization. He was an ROTC scholarship recipient at Providence College where he earned his bachelors degree in biology.

Upon graduation, he was commissioned into the Army’s Medical Service Corps specializing in Health Information Systems. He earned a masters of science in telecommunications from the University of Maryland and applied this new knowledge to issues of access by initiating his hospital’s first telemedicine program.

Sean’s service culminated at Walter Reed’s Telemedicine Directorate where he led a $4.5M congressionally funded wireless in healthcare program. Upon completion of his active service, he worked for Oracle Corp. managing the Defense Health System account. He then joined IMC, an information management organization.

There he directed the $17M congressionally funded program for the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology and earned his Project Management Professional certification. To solidify his skills in the healthcare management and policy field, Sean earned his masters of public health from the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health.

Sean has been awarded numerous military honors and awards and most recently was awarded a Partners in Excellence award for his work leading the Healthcare Intelligence and Strategy Group at the Mass General Physicians Organization.
