CIMIT Welcomes New Member to the Industry Liaison Program
4/5/02 -- CIMIT is delighted to announce that Ascension Technology, Inc. has joined CIMIT's Industry Liaison Program (ILP). Ascension, headquartered in Milton, VT, is a pioneer in the development of motion tracking solutions for application in the fields of medical imaging, biomechanics, simulation, motion capture and virtual reality. Ascension’s trackers produce data about human or instrument location and movement for use in computer graphics applications. Real-time interaction generates a broad range of clinical applications from 3D ultrasound to surgical instrument navigation.
Currently, Ascension’s trackers are being used in two CIMIT-funded projects - in a laparoscopic ultrasound development project and in VIRGIL, a simulator that teaches chest wound decompression technique for battlefield emergencies. The company feels that its technology is well-suited to several CIMIT programs, including vulnerable plaque, image guided therapy, endovascular devices, minimally invasive surgery, and medical simulation training.
Ascension has just begun to explore uses for its trackers in medical applications and has joined CIMIT in order to match its technology and engineering skills to the right clinical needs. More can be learned about Ascension at their website. Please contact Ann Humphrey (ahumphrey@partners.org) if you'd like more information or would like to meet with company representatives about a possible collaborative project.
Please join us in welcoming Ascension to the CIMIT community!
