CIMIT receives 255 Science and CSI pre-proposals, 65 teams advance to the full proposal stage

CIMIT has received and reviewed 255 pre-proposals, which reflect the many rich ideas throughout the research community of our member consortium institutions. This year, CIMIT expects to fund fiscal year 2010 projects at the same level as in 2009, although some resources are already committed to prior multi-year awards. From the finalist pool of 65 applications in this cycle, CIMIT anticipates making nine small (up to $40,000 direct cost) and ten medium size (up to $100,000 direct cost), one-year Science awards and up to $300,000 in direct costs divided among Clinical Systems Innovation awards.

Pre-proposals were evaluated and ranked by one or more CIMIT Program Leaders using the criteria given in the Request for Applications. Potential conflicts of interest were resolved by using other peer reviewers. The rankings were then merged in such a way that each application had equal chance of success. All CIMIT Science Programs and Consortium Institutions have at least one Principal Investigator in the forthcoming round. Approximately half of these projects are directly applicable to the care of military personnel, particularly for combat-related injury.

All applicants have been notified of the review decisions. Full proposals are only being accepted from those whose pre-proposals have been approved and who have been invited to submit a full proposal, which is due March 31, 2009.
