Webinar: The Epidemiology of Omicron

On January 18, 2022, Dr. Bill Hanage will discuss the current knowledge of Omicron epidemiology based on observations from early outbreak areas.

During this webinar, Dr. Bill Hanage will discuss the current knowledge of Omicron epidemiology based on observations from South Africa, the UK, and other early outbreak areas. He will pay particular attention to the relative intrinsic infectiousness and severity of infections relative to Delta, and their ability to evade prior immunity. Taken together, these suggest we should expect an extremely sharp peak of Omicron cases with a potentially extended period of healthcare demand depending on the characteristics and vaccination state of older individuals in the community.

Dr. Bill Hanage
Associate Professor of Epidemiology
Center for Communicable Disease Dynamics at Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health
